< RETURN TO DERBY MENU

MAY 3rd. 2008

Hello again from the beautiful Blenkinsop Valley in Victoria, BC.  The derby loft has been cleaned and painted out for the arrival of our new charges.  Just the best for our derby birds.  As of today, May 3rd. we now have 47 birds calling our place home.  They are being kept confined to the loft but have access to a California trap where they are able to see their new seroundings and take advantage of bathing in our rain showers.  A reminder that you should get your birds to us as soon as possible with most coming to us this weekend.     That's it for now.

       JUNE 4th. 2008

The birds have now been out for three weeks and doing well.  They are starting to kit up.  At best count we have 57 birds at the loft.  They move around a lot making an exact count difficult.  They all look very healthy.  As you can see all the perches were reserved but 2 of them will not be filled.  As our prize payout is based on 65 paid entries we will need to adjust the payout accordingly.

JUNE 17th.

The birds are getting a lot of flying due to the odd preditor that comes by and he has taken a few as you  can see on the patipants page.   We are now down to 57birds all looking in great shape.  We have finished with the 4 in 1 treatment and probiotics.

JULY 7th.

We've now done 3 training tosses of 10 km each.  After the first toss we lost CU 20506, & REG 353.  After the second toss we lost NR 3383 & MP 18 & after the third toss we lost NR 1203.  The preditors are still hunting but with minimal sucess as the birds are getting wiser to their tactics.  The weather is great so we will get in a toss tomorrow and are aiming to get to Mill Bay by the week-end.

JULY 14th.

We did our 8th. training toss today getting up to the tank farm at Mill Bay.  That is 52 km. in the van so must be about 30-32km for the birds.  The weather was great with partly cloudy skies and little or no wind.  As far as we can see we seem to be missing 4 birds tonight (8:22 pm) but the night is still young. On the 6th. toss we have lost MIR 900 and S.Land 245.  Between Bob's and Tony Correia's oppinion the birds are in great shape with the extra training last week and the molts are coming along as they should.  Good health in the loft and looking great.  Lots of loft flying as well.

JULY 20th.

Today the weather was ideal for a longer toss.  Bob and I drove up island with the intentions of releasing in Duncan but with such great conditions decided on Chemainus.  We found a perfect spot right at the park with a boat ramp.  After a rest and water break we let them out and they did only one round and off they headed for home.  When we got home they continued to fly the loft until about 7 pm.  These birds are indeed in great condition and form.  From last Thursdays toss we lost MP 794 .  Next toss Wednesday weather permitting.

JULY  29th.

Wed. we tossed from Chemanius, Saturday from Ladysmith, and Monday Chemanius.  As you can see we have 9 brids missing in action.  One we know was taken by a hawk yesterday..  The weather from the Ladysmith toss was showers and overcast otherwise we would have tried to get further up to toss.  The balance of the birds are in fantastic shape and we will allow loft flying for the rest of this week.  First race this week-end.  Check the Extra and if you wish to enter.  Good luck.

August 18th.

Sorry for the delays in updates.  We had a family health scare that took presidence over the results.  All is under control now and we will update the results. Prize payouts will be made as soon as possible.   There are now 21 birds home from the race and  we're more than pleased with that.  These birds were in fine form and it would have been interesting to race them as old birds next year just to realize their potential as a team.  They were an amazing flock to work with and we thank all of you for entrusting them to us.  It was indeed a great pleasure on our behalf to have the best of the best.  All our best in the sport from
